Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone
Turn the photos on your iPhone into JPG without a computer and without installing an app.
Your iPhone saves photos as HEIC, and some websites, forms and apps won’t accept them. You can convert them to JPG on the iPhone itself, in Safari, without installing anything. We also explain how to make your iPhone take photos in JPG and send them as JPG when you transfer them to a computer.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Open this page in Safari on your iPhone.
- Tap the box above and choose “Photo Library” to pick your photos, or “Choose Files” if they are in the Files app.
- Tap “Convert to JPG”.
- Tap “Download” when Safari asks. The JPG is saved in Files › Downloads; a ZIP with several photos opens there with a single tap.
Save the converted photos to your library
Safari saves downloads to the Files app, in the Downloads folder. To move a JPG to the Photos app, open it in Files, tap the Share button and choose Save Image. If you converted several photos, tap the ZIP first: Files unzips it into a folder, and from there you can select them all and share them in one go.
Make your iPhone take photos in JPG
If you often need JPG, you can avoid converting from the start. Go to Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible: new photos will be saved as JPG. In return, they will take up more space, and the photos you already have stay in HEIC.
Send photos as JPG to a computer
In Settings › Photos, at the bottom, the Transfer to Mac or PC option has two choices:
- Automatic: when you copy photos to a computer with a cable, the iPhone converts them to JPG if the computer may not support HEIC.
- Keep Originals: copies them as HEIC, as they are.
Keep it on Automatic if you usually move photos to a Windows PC.
Why convert online instead of using an app
- Nothing to install and nothing to pay: it works in Safari on any iPhone or iPad.
- Without the location: every iPhone photo stores where it was taken. When converting, we remove the GPS data and the rest of the metadata.
- Right way up and with their colours: we keep the orientation and the colour profile of each photo.
- Several at once: up to 20 photos per conversion.
The photos are uploaded to convert them, so if you are on mobile data, keep in mind that each one weighs a few megabytes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on my iPhone without an app?
Yes. Open this page in Safari, choose your photos from the library and tap “Convert to JPG”. The JPG is downloaded to the Files app, with no app to install.
Where are the converted photos saved on my iPhone?
In the Files app, in the Downloads folder. To move one to the Photos app, open it, tap Share and choose Save Image.
How do I open a ZIP with several photos on my iPhone?
Tap the ZIP in the Files app: iOS unzips it automatically into a folder with the same name, and the JPG photos are inside.
Does changing the camera to Most Compatible convert my old photos?
No. It only affects new photos. The ones you already have stay in HEIC, and you need to convert them if you want them as JPG.
Why does a website say my iPhone photo is not valid?
Many forms only accept JPG or PNG and reject HEIC, the iPhone’s format. Convert the photo to JPG and upload it again.
