JPEG to JPG

Change your images’ extension to .jpg without touching their quality.

Up to 20 files at once, 20 MB per file and 100 MB in total.

Your files are deleted automatically after conversion, and no later than one hour after upload. How we handle your files

Change your .jpeg, .jpe, .jfif or .jpg_large images to .jpg so that any website, form or app that only accepts .jpg files will take them. We don’t recompress the image, so the quality doesn’t change by a single pixel. No sign-up and no watermarks.

How to change a JPEG to JPG

  1. Select your .jpeg, .jfif or .jpg_large images (up to 20 at once).
  2. Click “Convert to JPG”.
  3. Download the image with the .jpg extension, or a ZIP if you converted several.

JPEG and JPG are the same format

There is no difference between a .jpeg file and a .jpg file: both are JPEG images. The three-letter extension comes from old versions of Windows, which didn’t allow longer ones; today both are used. The same goes for .jpe and .jfif, a variant Windows sometimes uses when saving images from the web, and for .jpg_large, the extension Twitter (X) adds to its images.

The trouble is that some websites, forms and apps only accept the .jpg extension and reject the others. So this tool:

  • Doesn’t recompress the image: it copies its data as is, so the quality is identical to the original.
  • Gives it the .jpg extension, which every site accepts.
  • Removes the metadata: the camera model, the date and the GPS location. We keep the color profile so the colors don’t change.

The only exception is phone photos that only display upright thanks to an orientation tag: without the metadata they would appear rotated, so we straighten them, which means saving them again, at a very high quality (95).

What about the reverse, .jpg to .jpeg?

It’s the same format: just rename the file and its extension. If a site asks you for a “JPEG”, a .jpg file already is one.

Is your image not a JPEG?

If your file is an iPhone photo (HEIC), a WebP or a PNG, changing the extension isn’t enough: it needs converting. Use HEIC to JPG, WebP to JPG or PNG to JPG. And if you need it to be smaller, compress the JPG.

Limitations

  • Only JPEG images are accepted, whatever their extension. If you upload another format, we’ll tell you.
  • Up to 20 images at once, 20 MB per image, 100 MB in total and 100 megapixels per image.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between JPEG and JPG?

None: they are the same format with two different extensions. The three-letter one (.jpg) comes from old versions of Windows, which didn’t allow longer extensions.

Do I lose quality converting JPEG to JPG?

No. We copy the image data as is, without recompressing it, so the result is identical to the original. Only the extension and the metadata change.

What is a .jfif file?

It’s a JPEG image with a different extension. Windows sometimes uses it when saving images from the web. With this tool you can change it to .jpg without losing quality.

How do I open a .jpg_large image from Twitter?

It’s a normal JPG to which Twitter (X) adds “_large” to the extension. Upload it here and download it as .jpg: it will open in any app.

Why won’t a website accept my .jpeg file?

Some forms only check for the .jpg extension, even though the format is the same. Change the image to .jpg with this tool and the form will accept it.
