Convert PDF to TIFF

Your PDF as one multi-page TIFF, for archives and document systems.

Up to 5 files at once, 50 MB per file and 100 MB in total.

Resolution

Dots per inch. Higher resolution means sharper images and larger files.

Your files are deleted automatically after conversion, and no later than one hour after upload. How we handle your files

Some archives, fax services, document management systems and print shops still ask for TIFF. Convert your PDF and get a single TIFF file with all its pages, in order, at print resolution and compressed without loss. Up to 5 PDFs at once, with no sign-up and no watermarks.

How to convert PDF to TIFF

  1. Select one or more PDF files (up to 5 at once).
  2. Choose the resolution: screen, general use or printing (the default, 300 dpi).
  3. Click “Convert to TIFF” and wait a moment while we draw every page.
  4. Download the TIFF or, if you converted several PDFs, the ZIP with one TIFF for each.

One TIFF with every page

TIFF can store several pages in a single file, and that is how scanned documents are usually archived and sent. That is why we put all the pages of the PDF into one TIFF, in the same order, instead of one file per page. Viewers that support it show the pages one after another, like a PDF.

If you prefer one image per page, PDF to JPG gives you exactly that.

Which resolution to choose

  • Printing (300 dpi, by default): the usual resolution for archives and print shops; text stays sharp when printed.
  • General use (150 dpi): a lighter file that still reads well on screen.
  • Screen (72 dpi): only for quick previews; small text becomes hard to read.

What the TIFF contains

  • Colour pages, drawn as a PDF viewer would show them, with smoothed text and graphics.
  • LZW compression, which is lossless: the TIFF is smaller without losing a single pixel. Most programs that read TIFF support it.
  • Pages as images: the text of the PDF can no longer be selected, searched or edited in the TIFF.

Limitations

  • A TIFF at 300 dpi is much larger than the PDF it comes from, especially with photos: a vector PDF only stores drawing instructions, while a TIFF stores every pixel.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
  • Up to 100 pages per PDF, 5 PDFs at once, 50 MB per PDF and 100 MB in total. The conversion runs in the background and the page lets you know when it is done.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get one TIFF per page or a single file?

A single TIFF with all the pages of the PDF, in order. If you convert several PDFs at once, you will get one multi-page TIFF for each, together in a ZIP.

Which resolution should I use for an archive or a fax service?

Use 300 dpi, the default: it is the standard for archiving documents and keeps small text legible. If the service sets a maximum file size and your TIFF exceeds it, try 150 dpi.

Why is the TIFF so much larger than the PDF?

Because a PDF usually stores text and shapes as instructions, while a TIFF stores every pixel of every page. LZW compression reduces the size without loss, but a TIFF is always heavier.

Can I edit the text of the TIFF?

No: each page becomes an image, as if it had been scanned. To recover editable text you would need a text recognition (OCR) program.
