Convert MOV to JPG

Get photos from MOV videos from your iPhone or camera, with their real colours.

One file at a time, up to 100 MB.

90

From 1 to 100. The higher it is, the better the image looks and the larger the file. Recommended: 90.

The moment in the video where the photo you want is, in seconds from the start.

Photos

With “Every…”, one photo every that many seconds from the chosen one, up to 50, in a ZIP.

Your files are deleted automatically after conversion, and no later than one hour after upload. How we handle your files

Convert a MOV video into JPG photos: choose the second and download that frame, or get one photo every few seconds. It works with iPhone videos, including those recorded in HDR, with Mac screen recordings and with videos from cameras that record in MOV. Free, with no sign-up and no watermarks.

How to convert MOV to JPG

  1. Select your MOV video.
  2. Type the second of the video where the photo you want is.
  3. Choose “Just that moment” or one photo every 1, 2, 5 or 10 seconds, and click “Convert to JPG”.
  4. Download the JPG, or a ZIP with the photos numbered in order.

iPhone HDR videos, with their real colours

Since the iPhone 12, the camera records in HDR (Dolby Vision) by default. If you simply take a frame from those videos, the photo comes out dull and greyish, because a JPG can’t store that range of light. We detect HDR videos and map their tones to the standard range before saving the photo, so the colours look like what you see on the iPhone.

Photos come out the right way up: videos filmed in portrait give portrait photos.

Better than a screenshot

Pausing the video and taking a screenshot is quick, but the screenshot has the screen’s resolution and sometimes the player controls on top. When we convert the MOV, we take the frame at the video’s resolution: 3840 × 2160 pixels in a 4K video, about 8 megapixels. That’s less than a photo from the iPhone camera, and scenes with a lot of movement may come out slightly blurred.

What about Live Photos?

In the Photos app, when you edit a Live Photo you can choose another instant as the key photo, without converting anything. If you want several instants as separate photos, save it as a video (from the Share button) and convert that video here with one photo every second.

One photo or several

  • Just that moment: a single JPG with the frame at the chosen second. The player shows the time: 0:42 is 42 seconds.
  • Every 1, 2, 5 or 10 seconds: one photo at that interval from the chosen second, until the end of the video or up to 50, in a ZIP.

Prefer an animation? Convert the clip from MOV to GIF. Is your video an MP4? Use MP4 to JPG.

Limitations

  • One video at a time, up to 100 MB, and 40 megapixels per frame. A minute of 4K iPhone video takes up more: trim it first in the Photos app or QuickTime Player.
  • Up to 50 photos per video.
  • The conversion runs in the background and the page lets you know when it’s ready.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a photo from an iPhone video?

Copy the video to your computer or open this page in Safari, type the second where the photo is and click “Convert to JPG”. You’ll download that frame as a JPG image.

Why don’t the frames from my HDR video come out grey?

Because we detect that the video is HDR and map its tones to the standard range before saving the JPG. Without that step, the photo would come out dull, as it does with many other tools.

Does it work with MOV videos from a camera?

Yes. Many Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic cameras record in MOV, and ProRes videos can be read too. The limit is 100 MB per video, so trim longer ones first.

Can I get a photo from a Mac screen recording?

Yes: recordings made with QuickTime Player or the Mac’s Screenshot app are MOV files. Choose the second and you’ll get the screen at the resolution it was recorded at.

Do the photos include the video’s location?

No. The JPGs are saved without metadata: neither the GPS location nor the iPhone model stored in the video is copied to the photos.
